Biochemica Water has helped to reduce water demand with process improvements at a food processing plant.

The factory, which washes and processes vegetables re-circulates water back around their wash system without any treatment which meant that produce was continually washed in dirty water. This has a number of implications, not least the need for regular refreshing of the process with clean water, which only stayed clean for a short period.

Biochemica’s solution was to pass the wastewater through a centrifuge-decanter with a view to removing the solids as a dry waste material and cleaning up the water to an acceptable standard for reuse.

As a result, the requirement for mains water to top up and/or refresh the system was reduced, thereby reducing costs, as well as a number of other disposal benefits.
